I've always loved bright, colourful and jolly pots, but realised I'd either have to make or buy lots of different glazes to have the choice of colours.
So I decided to try making my own colour slip, made from a white base and 5-10% colour stains. Once I got into a bit of a flow, it was easy to make a variety of colours quickly. A fabulous range, sitting on the shelf just waiting to be picked up and painted onto greenware, Voila, instant creativity.
Of course I've got no idea what the final colours may look like when they come out the kiln, but that's the joy and excitement. The colours that work, well we can make more of them and the colours that are, well not so great there's nothing lost. - pics below show unloading my pots out of the kiln just after the bisque.
I'll add some clear glaze, do a glaze fire and see how the final colours develop.
